Thankful for maps

And why I haven't changed much since 2nd grade.

When I was little, I dunno, second or third grade? -at least reading age? -we had a Thanksgiving-inspired project in the month of November to first create a hand turkey and then write in each "feather" (finger) one thing we are grateful for.

I put:

  1. Family, because they take care of me.

  2. A home so I have somewhere to live.

  3. Maps, because without them we wouldn't know where we are going.

  4. Good food to eat.

  5. Friends so I can have fun.

I don't have that hand turkey in the stack of old school papers my parents gave me years ago, but I do have this random and somewhat concerning piece of third-grade art.... Note the Boston accent adding an unnecessary "r" in my misspelling in the Jumper's jaunty thought bubble.

All these years later and I am, in fact, still grateful for maps. So grateful, in fact, that I spent a several hours creating several custom maps on Google's "My Map," an amazing tool I previously did not know existed.

I did find this amazing blog post about hand turkeys in looking for a stock hand-turkey photo to borrow, since mine is MIA.

There are several layers:

  • National Parks me and Michael haven't been to together (brown tags)

  • Epic Ski Resorts (blue tags)

  • Ikon Ski Resorts (yellow tags)

  • States that offer camping discounts to non-resident disabled veterans (red tags)

  • A layer to-be-made of military campgrounds

For those asking what our route may be, this is the first step in us figuring that out too! Enjoy!

There's more in Alaska that got cut off, but suffice it to say, I don't think we'll be taking 'ol Brunhilda the fun bus into the tundra.... And there's some in Hawaii, but we will not be caulking our wagon and floating the Pacific to RV there.

Just say no.
Just say no.
